who is flamingo blonde

flamingo blonde is the alt-rock project of James Bartlett, the Magandjin/Brisbane-based artist who has steadily carved out a reputation for themself through a punchy, intrepid live show and a knack for sharply written guitar pop. Known for delivering disjointed hooks with a laid-back confidence alongside witty lyrical picture-painting, flamingo blonde has made their presence felt supporting the likes of Real Estate, Whitney, Last Dinosaurs, and The Slingers.

Following the release of the debut EP Two Trick Pony via PIAS, created with ARIA-winning producer Aidan Hogg, flamingo blonde caught attention with a sound that balanced polished songwriting and breezy charm. It marked a strong opening statement - one that established flamingo blonde as more than just a live favorite, but a promising songwriting staple.

Now, flamingo blonde is stepping back into the shuttle with something a little more makeshift and sharp, without losing the scrappier edge, embracing spontaneity and grit while remaining firmly anchored by an earworm, a brainworm, fast-running guitars, and just a touch of cheek. For fans of Hovvdy, Alex G and DJO, it’s the natural evolution of flamingo blonde - confident, curious, and ready to push the sound forward while keeping one foot planted in the joy of indie rock.
